Original vs Economy LED Neon: Which Build Is Right for Your Sign?

Every LED neon sign we make is built using one of two technologies: Original, our premium build, or Economy, a lighter-cost alternative. Both light up and look great at first glance. The differences show up in the detail, and they matter most for signs that will be seen up close or used every day.

Short answer: Original or Economy?

Choose Original for a sign that people see up close or every day, such as a shopfront, a bar, a salon or a reception wall: the light is even, the wiring is hidden and the warranty is the longest. Choose Economy for a pop-up, a party or a bold, simple design when the budget comes first.

1. Evenness of light

Original strips glow with the same brightness from one end to the other, so lettering and logos look crisp and uniform. Economy signs can show slightly dimmer patches, most often at the tips of letters and in small, intricate details, which can make a sign look a little less polished.

Economy LED neon: dimmer areas at the ends of letters

2. How the parts are secured

With Original, the ends of each strip are glued and fitted with dedicated end caps, so nothing can work loose. In an Economy build there is a small chance that a section will slip out of its channel and hang free, which affects both looks and stability.

3. Cable routing

Original signs keep cables tucked away and fixed at the back, so the front stays clean. On an Economy sign, cables can sometimes be seen from the front and may not be held firmly in place, which makes them easier to catch or knock.

4. The back of the sign

Original construction stops light bleeding through to the rear, so the sign looks tidy from every angle. In Economy builds some glow can show at the back, giving a less finished appearance if the sign is viewed from behind.

5. Line width and fine detail

Original allows slimmer, more refined lines, which is what you want for detailed artwork and delicate lettering. Economy lines are thicker, which suits bold, simple designs better than intricate ones.

6. Lifespan

Original signs use high-grade LEDs chosen for a long working life and resistance to wear. Economy signs use simpler components that are not built to last as long and may need attention sooner.

7. Warranty

Original signs come with a 2-year warranty as standard, extended to up to 5 years with the All Inclusive Plus package. Economy signs are covered for 1 year, and that cover does not extend to power supplies or dimmers.

8. Price

Original costs more than Economy, with the exact difference depending on how complex the design is. What you pay extra for is better looks, a longer life and fewer surprises down the line.

So which one should you choose?

Choose Original if appearance, durability and a flawless finish are the priority, for example a flagship shopfront, a hotel or restaurant interior, or a sign that will be on show for years. Economy is a sensible option when cost is the main driver and you are happy to accept a few visual compromises, such as a short-term display or a simple, bold design.
